So last night I was playing Germs link and I was handling it very well and winning alot, I got "In the groove" and started playing really fast..well because it was working. Then I played DRYLs Samus which I usually 2-3 Stock..and I played worse...which led to me getting frustrated.
What its easy to do is feel so confident and start playing fast and throw away solid match up knowledge out the window.
Now in way some of you might be thinking...Man you must have been in the zone.
It was true I was so in a certain zone. This is the opposite of playing cold.. is getting too hot.
I can't stress the importance of re-evaulting a match-up before you press start.
It's not going to kill anyone to think for 10-30 seconds. I feel this buffer time is very important for your mind and fingers to relax and not get hyped and too comfortable.
Main difference was I was rushing Germ down to stop his spam game but that isn;t need vs Samus and I wasn't waiting for smart opening.

sounds like you need to find ways to test the waters first. You dont have to slow down if you are feeling it, you just got to make sure not to get brainless when you do it. See how they react to what you do. if you fair there shield out of grab range, just wait. If they stay in there shield of awhile, grab. If they side step, well you found a sidestepper and you know to wait a little bit everytime you grab. If they roll same deal. If they try to do an aerial out of shield, next time do a reverse utilt or jab. If they try to grab you dash dance grab. Most players are not aware of what they do out of shield. They are not thinking about it. Its all reactions and habits. If you meet a certain requirement they are going to react the same way. Its very hard to adjust to that. So have faith on what they are going to do it again, because chances are they do not know they are doing it. This is true for even top players. Melee is such an organic game that theres many aspects of a persons game they are not aware of. We can talk more about this on aim if you want.
